MYSURU: In a shocking incident, a woman previously declared dead more than two years ago appeared alive in a Mysuru courtroom on April 2, 2025. The woman, identified as Mallige, was brought to court by a family member, leaving the judge and attendees in disbelief. Her husband, Kurubara Suresha, had been imprisoned for her alleged murder following her disappearance in December 2020 from Kodagu district in Karnataka.

The case took a dramatic turn when, nine months after Mallige went missing, police discovered a body that they claimed belonged to her. Reports indicate that Bettadapura police pressured Suresha into accepting the body as that of his wife, leading to his arrest and 18 months of incarceration.

Fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar strongly disapproved the probe, terming the charge sheet as "junk" and doubting the evidence that was used to confirm the body as Mallige's. He demanded to know what concrete proof existed to support the claim, emphasizing that the case relied heavily on hearsay rather than factual evidence.

The judge also criticized the absence of digital or scientific evidence and instructed the Mysuru Superintendent of Police to initiate a new investigation, with a report expected by April 17. During the trial, Mallige denied the ownership of the clothes on the body, a claim that was accepted by all seven witnesses.

Meanwhile, Suresha's father has demanded accountability for the police officers involved, claiming that his son was falsely accused and abused while in custody.
