WASHINGTON D.C: NASA has identified a newly discovered asteroid, 2024 YR4, which has a 1-in-83 chance of hitting Earth on December 2032. The asteroid is about 196 feet (60 meters) wide and is currently 27 million miles away. Scientists have identified possible impact areas, raising concerns about the damage it could cause.

The asteroid could hit regions including northern South America, southern Asia, the Pacific Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and parts of Africa. Countries at risk include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Sudan, Nigeria, Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador.

If it enters Earth's atmosphere, it could explode in the air with the force of eight million tons of TNT, affecting an area up to 50 kilometers wide.

To assess the situation, NASA has assigned a team of astronomers to study the asteroid using the James Webb Space Telescope. They are working to better understand its size, path, and risk of impact.

Scientists say that if the asteroid hits, it could cause serious damage because of its large size, similar to the Statue of Liberty.

Although the chance of impact is low, experts are keeping a close watch on 2024 YR4. They are studying its movements carefully and looking at possible ways to protect the affected areas if the risk increases. While there is no immediate danger, NASA is making sure they are prepared for any future developments.
