GUWAHATI: The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway, Maligaon, has issued a press release stating that the NFR has decided to remove permanent speed restriction to improve speed and safety.
According to the press release, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken extensive measures to enhance the sectional speed of trains, improving punctuality and passenger services. As part of these efforts, NFR has removed or relaxed 10 Permanent Speed Restrictions (PSRs) as of December 2024. Additionally, speeds on loop lines have been increased across various sections, contributing to faster train operations.
To achieve this, the engineering team has focused on adjusting track geometry, reducing curvature, and leveling bridges to eliminate abrupt gradient changes. These upgrades ensure smoother train movement through previously restricted sections. The removal of PSRs reflects NFR’s dedication to improving rail infrastructure and operational efficiency, the press release further said.
Also, in parallel, NFR is addressing 44 Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSRs) currently in place. Speed enhancement work involves comprehensive track renewal, bridge strengthening, easing of curves, and upgrading signaling systems. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to provide safe, reliable, and faster rail travel across the region.
NFR’s ongoing efforts include regular track maintenance and the installation of advanced signaling and control systems. These infrastructure upgrades are pivotal in ensuring smooth and efficient train operations, enhancing passenger experiences, and supporting the growing demand for rail services in the northeastern region.
