ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association (APUTA) on Thursday renewed its demand to raise the retirement age of university teachers from 60 to 65 years in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.
A delegation led by APUTA president Dr Eli Doye and general secretary Dr Lige Sora met Arunachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi and urged the administration to expedite implementation of the long-pending demand.
The association said it had submitted a memorandum to the Governor, who is also the university’s Chancellor, on October 30 last year, but no significant progress had been made. It argued that the existing retirement age does not conform to UGC guidelines and is lower than that followed by most central and state universities.
APUTA said raising the retirement age would help retain experienced faculty members, strengthen academic leadership and ensure continuity in teaching, research and administration.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Modi assured the delegation that the matter would be pursued with the competent authorities on priority.
