ITANAGAR: The Privilege Committee of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday initiated a breach of privilege motion against a state government official. The committee chaired by Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Kardo Nyigyor initiated the motion against Rural Works Department, Rupa circle, superintendent engineer N L Kamin based on the allegations by Bameng MLA Kumar Waii, an official statement said.

The committee heard both the parties at length and is now investigating the allegations, it said. Once it is proved that the allegations levelled are true, action will be initiated as per the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly under Article 194 of the Constitution of India.

Members of the Privilege Committee, including MLAs Chau Zingnoo Namchoom (Namsai), Puinnyo Apum (Dambuk), Hayeng Mangfi (Chayangtajo), and Ziro-Hapoli lawmaker Hage Appa, advocate general Indraneel Chowdhury, and assembly secretary Tadar Meena, were present in the meeting.

Reportedly, Waii had accused the SE of non-cooperation and non-compliance.

After he got elected, Waii claimed that he called the engineer to discuss various developmental projects, including the road projects under Vibrant Village Projects and other government-sponsored projects under the Bameng assembly constituency; however, Kamin neither responded to his calls nor attended meetings.

The MLA also alleged the engineer of corrupt practices.
