ITANAGAR: In a tragic accident on Sunday evening, four people lost their lives, and two others, including a 9-year-old child, sustained critical injuries after their car veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district. The incident occurred at around 5 PM near 23 Mile, close to Roing.
Two families from Numaligarh in Assam’s Golaghat district were on their way to Mayodia when the accident happened. The police said the car, driven by Manoj Chetry, went off the road and fell into the gorge due to bad weather and low visibility.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Chetry, Meena Chetry, Suraj Chetry, and Manoj Chetry, the driver. Manoj’s body was recovered from the wreckage of the car, which was mangled beyond recognition. Efforts are underway to retrieve the remaining three bodies.
Harimaya Chetry and a young girl, Rasni Chetry, were rescued and taken to Dibrugarh for treatment. The two families, from Numaligarh, had gone to Arunachal Pradesh for a holiday.
Meanwhile, two ghastly road accidents were reported in Kamle and Pakke-Kessang districts on January 19, resulting in the deaths of two persons while several others sustained injuries. In the first mishap, a bike accident had killed Manoj Risong, a resident of East Siang district, near Godak village in Kamle district.
The incident had taken place at around 9 AM when Risong, while negotiating a sharp turn, had fallen into a gorge. Sadly, he had succumbed to the injuries on the spot.
Napho Wangsa, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raga Police Station, had said that a case had been lodged in this connection. "The body of the deceased had been handed over to his relatives," Wangsa had added.
