PASIGHAT: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Siang, in collaboration with the Legal Aid Cell, Faculty of Law and Forensic Sciences, Apex Professional University, Pasighat, organized a one-day Free Legal Awareness Camp for the Gaon Burahs and Gaon Buris (GBs) of Bilat Block, East Siang District.

During the technical session, Adv. Tonning Pertin delivered a lecture on The Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation, 1945, emphasizing the role of village authorities in the judicial process.

This was followed by Adv. Taber Tamuk, who spoke on the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Court Act of 2021 and its amendments in 2022 and 2023. He highlighted key aspects of the Act, particularly the functions of inter-village customary courts within the state’s legal framework.

The technical sessions sparked curiosity among participants, leading to an interactive discussion. Key issues raised included the possibility of filing cases directly in civil courts instead of customary courts and the necessity of announcing decisions on the same day before both parties.

The event saw the participation of over 70 attendees, including Gaon Burahs and Gaon Buris of Bilat Block, resource persons, advocates, DLSA East Siang members, faculty, and students of Apex Professional University.
