Itanagar: Capital police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly raping a 20-year-old domestic worker over a span of two years at his residence near IG Park here, police said on Monday.
The arrest follows a Zero FIR lodged on June 13 at Bordumsa Police Station in Changlang district, based on a written complaint filed by the survivor. The case was later transferred to the Itanagar Women Police Station, where an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Capital Superintendent of Police (SP) Jummar Basar informed.
The survivor, a native of Goju village, had been employed as a domestic worker at the accused’s home since 2023. She alleged repeated sexual assault and harassment by a male member of the household, despite her resistance. On May 29 last, she was allegedly assaulted again and forcibly sent back to her village in a traumatised condition.
The accused, identified as Akom Yomto Dango of Laigi village in Upper Subansiri district, was arrested on Sunday following an investigation.
