Itanagar: A one-day training programme on ‘substance abuse prevention and life skills’ was held at Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), with the aim of empowering master volunteers to combat drug abuse. Sponsored by the union Social Justice and Empowerment ministry, the event featured sessions by medical and social experts, culminating in a pledge by all participants to work toward a drug-free district.
West Siang ICDS deputy director Yabi Riba Ete, in her address, underlined the objectives of NMBA and the vital role master volunteers play in raising awareness and educating communities about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Resource persons included Kennedy Bagra, managing director of NGO Mother Vision, and district tuberculosis officer Dr Nyade Padu Bagra. They delivered in-depth presentations on the social causes of drug abuse, the behavioural effects of substance use, withdrawal symptoms, and the importance of psychosocial treatment in managing addiction.
