Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (retd) on Thursday called for a multi-pronged effort to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) from the state by 2025.
In a meeting with state’s Health commissioner Pawan Kumar Sain at Raj Bhavan to review implementation of the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) in the state, Parnaik emphasized on doubling patient support, use of technology and better diagnostic tools and exploration of new drugs to eliminate TB. The governor insisted that the special 100-day campaign, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, must be a mass movement in the state, a communiqué from Raj Bhavan said.
Parnaik, who has adopted several TB patients from 7 districts as a part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, appealed to political leaders, government officials and community leaders to adopt TB patients. With the collective effort of all Arunachalese, the state can eliminate TB from the state, he said.
He also appealed to medical officials to reach out to affected people and start treatment as soon as possible. Pointing out the low population of the state, he said our health officials will be able to achieve ‘TB Mukt Arunachal’. The governor also appealed to corporate houses to participate in the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan under Corporate Social Responsibility in providing crucial support to TB patients, the communiqué added.
