SEPPA: A Sensitization and Awareness Programme focusing on key legal protections for women, including the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, and the She-Box online complaints portal, was conducted at Abotani Conference Hall here today.

The event saw participation from 50 representatives across various departments such as Education, Health, Urban Development, Police, Women Welfare Organization (NGO), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Fishery, and General Administration.

Advocate Mefang Pabing addressed the gathering on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, explaining the various forms of abuse covered under the Act — including physical, verbal, economic, and sexual abuse — and detailing the associated offenses and punishments.

Advocate Taluk Beyong then spoke on The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. He stressed the importance of forming an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in offices with 10 or more female employees and a Local Complaints Committee (LCC) for the unorganized sector. He further elaborated on different forms of workplace harassment and the available redressal mechanisms.

Juni Taku, District Mission Coordinator, provided insights on She-Box, an online complaints portal designed to address workplace harassment across all sectors. She explained the complaint registration process, emphasizing the importance of a valid email ID and phone number, while assuring confidentiality for complainants.

Puppy Sonam Bagang, General Secretary of the Women Welfare Organization (WWO), shared her experiences handling domestic violence cases in East Kameng District.
