ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh government will soon set up five special schools to cater to the needs of children with special needs (CwSNs).
State Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona informed that the proposed special schools will be established in the erstwhile five districts of the state - Kameng, Lohit, Siang, Subansiri, and Tirap.
"We have a significant number of special students in our state who face numerous challenges every day. It is important to take steps to support them," the minister said.
He said the groundwork is currently underway to assess the requirements for setting up special schools.
Once the initial preparations are complete, the proposal will be placed before the state cabinet for approval, Sona said.
Terming the development as 'Inclusion in action, progress in motion', Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a social media post said, "It is a testament to the state's commitment to equality, empowerment and leaving no child behind on the journey to Viksit Bharat."
Khandu added that the focus of these schools will be to support children facing daily challenges.
According to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) data, a total of 2,989 children were identified as CwSNs in Arunachal Pradesh during the 2023-24 academic year.
