Itanagar: In a significant success under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Nirjuli Police in Arunachal Pradesh, recently apprehended a drug peddler and seized 21 vials of suspected heroin weighing approximately 27.51 grams. The accused, identified as Tame Peter (23), a resident of D-Sector at Nirjuli, was arrested after a chase in the Midpu area, a senior police official said here on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Monday during a naka checking operation at Dikrong Colony, led by Nirjuli police station officer-in-charge Inspector T M Nekam. The police team acted on specific input and was conducting the operation under the supervision of Naharlagun superintendent of police (SP) Mihin Gambo and SDPO Rishi Longdo.
Upon spotting the police, the scooty rider attempted to flee but was swiftly intercepted at Midpu. A body search led to the recovery of the heroin vials, SP Gambo said.
A case has been registered under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway, the SP said.
