Ex-Arunachal minister Thupten Tempa passes away, condolences pour in

Former minister and veteran Congress leader from Tawang, Thupten Tempa passed away at RK Mission Hospital (RKMH) here, on Friday evening.

ITANAGAR: Former minister and veteran Congress leader from Tawang, Thupten Tempa passed away at RK Mission Hospital (RKMH) here, on Friday evening.

Tempa, who last time underwent a kidney transplant, complained of abdomen pain on Thursday, RKMH sources said, adding that he was brought on Friday evening in a state of shock due to low blood pressure. But his condition worsened and passed away despite doctors' best efforts.

He is survived by a daughter and a son.

The 68-year-old former minister was the INC candidate for the Tawang constituency in the 2019 legislative assembly election.

Earlier, he served as minister in various capacities in the state.

An active social worker throughout his life, Tempa earned an MA degree in international politics from JNU, followed by an MPhil in diplomacy. He also served as an Indian Revenue Service officer and later joined the Indian Administrative Service.

Meanwhile, state Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra has condoled the untimely demise of Tempa.

The Governor said that Tempa made outstanding contributions to the state government in various capacities.

"In the passing away of Tempa, the state has lost a good administrator, a talented member of the Legislative Assembly and a minister," he said.

Joining the people of the state in the hour of grief, Mishra offered prayers to the Almighty to give fortitude to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss and eternal peace for the departed soul.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu also mourned the demise of the leader.

"Saddened by passing away of senior leader Thupten Tempaji. May Lord Buddha provide peace to his soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss. Om Mani Padme Hum!" Khandu said on his official Twitter handle.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna mein, Legislative Assembly speaker Passang Dorjee Sona and many senior leaders of the state also mourned his death.
