ITANAGAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, has issued an impact-based weather forecast warning of thunderstorms with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh over the next three days.
Heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm in 24 hours is very likely at isolated places in East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri, Lohit, and Longding, while very heavy rainfall between 12 and 20 cm is expected in Namsai, Tirap, and Changlang.
On August 9 to 10, heavy showers are likely in Lower Subansiri and Anjaw, with very heavy rain forecast for Papumpare, Lohit, and Changlang. Between August 10 and 11, heavy rain is likely in West Siang, Siang, and Anjaw, while Papumpare and Lower Subansiri could receive very heavy rainfall.
The IMD has cautioned that intense spells may cause poor visibility, traffic congestion, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and temporary disruption of movement due to uprooting of trees or flooding of roads.
There is also a high possibility of landslides, mudslides, and flash floods, as well as damage to vulnerable structures, hoardings, tents, and display boards. Damage to power and communication lines due to falling branches is anticipated, while agricultural impacts may include harm to standing crops, particularly horticultural produce, soil erosion, seed displacement, and poor germination due to prolonged water stagnation.
Authorities have advised people to avoid flood-prone or landslide-prone areas, follow traffic advisories, and strengthen vulnerable structures. Farmers have been urged to provide proper drainage in cropped fields, use natural mulching materials such as straw to protect soil and roots, and postpone sowing of seeds where possible.
