Itanagar: A 40-year-old man identified as Tade Pigyor went missing after falling into the Siom River while attempting to cross a hanging bridge in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Shi Yomi district, a senior police official said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on early Thursday morning when Pigyor was crossing the suspension bridge that connects Yapik and Lipo villages, located on opposite banks of the river.

According to Shi Yomi Superintendent of Police (SP) S K Thongdok, the bridge may have tilted, causing the man to lose balance and fall into the river’s strong current.

“Upon receiving the information, the district police immediately launched a massive search operation. However, as of now, there is no trace of the missing person,” Thongdok said.

He further informed that police stations across neighbouring districts including, West Siang, East Siang, and Siang, as well as police in Assam, have been alerted and are coordinating efforts to locate the missing individual.
