ITANAGAR: The relentless pursuit and human approach of security forces in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh to convince the insurgents to join the mainstream has paid dividends, with a mass surrender of militants before Longding police on Tuesday.

Altogether eight NSCN (National Socialist Council of Nagaland) rebels including five from NSCN-KYA and three from NSCN-R, surrendered before Longding Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikram HM Meena, informed Deputy SP B Tangjang.

The cadres who were engaged in extortion and collection of taxes, were holding influential positions and working actively for the outfits, pointed out Tangjang. Earlier, several important insurgent leaders have joined the mainstream giving a blow to the underground outfits active in the region, added the DSP .

Revealing about their hard life in the respective organisations during the surrender ceremony, the surrendered militants appealed to their fellow cadres to shun violence and start a new beginning by surrendering before the police and administration.
