ITANAGAR: A high-level meeting to boost tourism in Jemeithang and Lungla under Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, was held on Monday, bringing together government officials, tourism stakeholders, and local representatives.
The discussion focused on unlocking the region’s tourism potential, creating job opportunities, and preserving cultural heritage while promoting unexplored destinations.
Tawang deputy commissioner Kanki Darang, who chaired the meeting, underscored the untapped natural beauty, biodiversity, and historical significance of Jemeithang and Lungla.
He emphasized that enhanced tourism would drive economic growth and employment for local youth, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in positioning these locations as prime travel destinations.
A detailed PowerPoint presentation by EAC Jemeithang, Deewan Mara, highlighted the major tourist attractions of the region.
The session also featured a promotional video of the first-ever laser show on Gorsam Stupa, which narrates the history of Jemeithang and is set to premiere during the upcoming Gorsam Kora Festival from March 26-29 next.
Additionally, a freedom trail foot march from Kenzamani to Tawang was proposed to commemorate historical events and attract adventure tourism.
Lungla lawmaker Tsering Lhamu expressed her appreciation for the DC’s initiative and provided insights into ongoing and proposed tourism projects in Lungla. She called for collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to establish Jemeithang and Lungla as thriving tourist hubs.
Department of Karmik and Adhyatmik Affairs (DoKAA) chairman Jambey Wangdi, emphasised the importance of preserving local traditions, folk culture, and indigenous names while promoting tourism in the region.
Other key speakers, including Lungla ADC Tashi Dhondup and district tourism officer Tsering Deki, along with taxi operators, homestay owners, and tour operators, shared practical suggestions to increase tourist footfall and improve visitor experiences.
