World Pharmacists Day observed at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh

PASIGHAT: Apex Professional University (APU), Pasighat in association with Arunachal Pradesh Pharmacy Council (APPC) and Arunachal Registered Pharmacist Association (APRA), observed World Pharmacists Day at the APU conference hall near here on Sunday.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Joint Director of Health Services (T&R) BPGH, Pasighat Dr T Tali stated that the day is celebrated every year to create awareness about the role of a pharmacist in improving the healthcare system and to honour and recognize their contribution towards global health. It provides an opportunity to promote the pharmacy profession.

Good behaviour and trust between pharmacists and patients are essential he said, adding that pharmacists should always keep updating their pharmaceutical knowledge and skills because their profession is directly related to human life.

They should serve the people with sincerity, devotion and dedication so that people can understand how they are educating and making people healthier and also showcase pharmacy's positive impact on health and strengthen solidarity among the profession, added Tali in his inaugural speech. Guest of Honour Dr P Ajith Kumar, Vice Chancellor of APU spoke at length about how pharmacists require a significant investment of time and effort. They play pivotal role in the healthcare sector.

A pharmacist is a healthcare professional who is specifically trained to store, handle, prepare and dispense various medicines within the law and should guide the patients about using or administering their medicines. Likewise, he said, they serve as a final check to ensure that doses are correct and that a patient will not experience negative or harmful drug interactions. The theme for the year 2022 was Pharmacy United in Action for a Healthier World.

Chief Patron Acharya Dhanwant Singh, Chancellor of APU, and Ibom Ete, greeted the pharmacists and conveyed the organizing committee for celebrating the occasion in a befitting manner. The programme was attended by Vijay Kumar Tilak (APU), Dr Vema Kiran and Gamto Ngomdir from APU, Tani Padung (ARPA), Tai Niku from Drug Regulatory Board (East Siang), and Katon Darin from Arunachal Pradesh Pharmacy Council.

The welcome address and vote of thanks were delivered by Vijay Kr Tilak and by Prof Nasir Ahmad Khan respectively.
