DIBRUGARH: The 12th National Handloom Day 2026 was celebrated at the Handloom Trade Centre, Chowkidingee, Dibrugarh, on Friday through a joint initiative of SBI Foundation, SBIF LEAP, and Aide et Action, in collaboration with the Department of Handloom and Textiles, Assam.
The programme was attended by Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi IAS, as the chief guest.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Champak Saikia, Assistant Director of the Department of Handloom and Textiles, who highlighted the significance of preserving and promoting Assam's rich handloom heritage.
As part of the celebration, seven handloom weavers from Dibrugarh district were felicitated with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the handloom sector.
HAFLONG: The 12th National Handloom Day was observed in Haflong on Thursday with a programme organised by the Department of Handloom and Textile, Dima Hasao, to highlight the rich handloom tradition of the region and acknowledge the contribution of local weavers.
The programme was held at the office premises of the Additional Director of Handloom and Textile, Haflong. Naren Malakar, Additional Director of Sericulture, attended the programme as the chief guest in the presence of officials and other dignitaries.
