14 arrested for attacking Assam police personnel in Boko

Assam police personnel were beaten up by a mob when the police team went to a village to arrest a rape accused at Rongapani village under Sontoli Police outpost of Boko Police Station.

BOKO: Assam police personnel were beaten up by a mob when the police team went to a village to arrest a rape accused on Friday at Rongapani village under Sontoli Police outpost of Boko Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Dipak Deka said, “A case had been registered on March 13 after I got a FIR regarding rape by Munnabh Ali from Bodola Bazar under 3 No. Dakhin Rongapani village. So I led a police team, including seven police personnel, and arrested Munnabh Ali from his house on March 17.”

“When we tried to take him in our vehicle, a few of his family members came and this caused a heated situation. Meanwhile, people of the area started arguing with us and attacked us,” Deka added. He further said, “They even forcefully tried to snatch our arms and ammunition. In the meantime, the rape accused Munnabh Ali absconded from the spot with the help of his some supporters. Four of our police personnel were injured in the incident and under medical observation in Boko Hospital.”

In this connection, Kamrup Police launched an operation on Friday night in Bodola Bazar under 3 No. Dakhin Rongapani village and apprehended 14 persons involved in the mob attack on police.

Boko Police Station officer in-charge Phanindra Nath said, “The incident happened in the morning around 11 am on March 17 when Sontoli Outpost in-charge SI Dipak Deka and his team went to arrest Munnabh Ali. In this connection, we registered a case regarding the mob attacks on police and the case no. is Boko P.S Case no 124/2023 U/S- 353/325/147/148/149/394/342/307 IPC.”

“Kamrup Police later in the night launched an operation and three juveniles have been apprehended in connection with the incident and forwarded to juvenile custody. Eleven accused men and women from the village were arrested. Our investigation is still going on and more accused persons will be arrested very soon,” added OC of Boko Police Station, Phanindra Nath.

The 11 accused persons sent to judicial custody are Jiwan Necha, Hajera Khatun, Jesmina Khatun, Anuwar Hussain, Azizul Haque, Samsul Haque, Tarachand Ali, Amjad Ali, Ajmal Haque, Nur Mohammad Ali and Omar Ali. Rape accused Munnabh Ali is still absconding.
