SILCHAR: Cachar Police apprehended two different groups of Bangladeshi citizens on Sunday, while they were trying to cross the border in Katigorah to return to their own country. All of these Bangladeshi citizens admitted that they had entered India through illegal means a few years back and had been working in Surat, Gujarat. In the last one month, nearly 100 Bangladeshi infiltrators were detained by police while on their way back to their own country.

On Sunday, Katigorah Police first detained a group comprising five Bangladesh citizens including a minor. They had hired a car to reach the border where the local broker would have arranged crossing over the fence in the border. Later, another group of nine Bangladeshi were similarly detained. All of them admitted that following the Pahalgam mayhem, the Gujarat government had started a crackdown on the illegal immigrants and hence they decided to move back to their own country.

Recent incidents of detaining illegal infiltrators in Cachar’s land border in Katigorah focussed on a well-knit human trafficking racket. Till now, the Cachar Police have succeeded in only detaining the homebound Bangladeshis, but miserably failed to track the human trafficking racket.
