DOOMDOOMA: The 78th foundation day of Hoonlal Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma, was observed on Sunday.
In the morning, the president of the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) and Minister for Labour Welfare, Tea Tribes, and Tribal Welfare and Home Affairs, Rupesh Gowala, hoisted the foundation day flag of the school while Principal Olip Khan hoisted the school flag. The meeting was held at the open stage of the school where Principal Olip Khan welcomed everybody present.
After cutting the foundation day cake, Minister Rupesh Gowal, who is a former student of the school, reminisced about his days spent in the school as a student. He also told about the steps being taken by the government at present for the development of the school.
The school felicitated former principal Shima Chowdhury, former teachers Prasad Sonowal, Mrigen Saikia, Gauri Shankar Chetia, and Anju Hati Baruah, and Anima Dutta Saikia, respectively. In the cultural events, the students performed Dihanaam and presented Goalpariya folk songs. Former teacher Gauri Shankar Chetia recited a self-composed poem. Besides this, a tree sapling was planted in the school premises in the name of Ajan Fakir, regarded as a saint for his lyrical composition on Hindu-Muslim amity. The programme came to an end with the singing of Assam Sangeet ‘Oh mor aponar dekh.’.
