GAURISAGAR: Hatighuli Xakha Xahitya Xabha, an apex body of Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, celebrated the 80th birth anniversary of prominent educationist, writer, social worker, and founder President of Hatighuli Xakha Xahitya Xabha, Muhi Kanta Nath, on Thursday at Hatighuli MV School.
On this occasion, an open session was held. Kuladhar Borah, President, Hatighuli Xakha Xahitya Xabha, chaired it. Speaking as the chief guest in the event, Dr Anil Saikia, retired Principal of Moran College and eminent folk culture researcher, said that Muhi Kanta Nath, who received his postgraduate degree in 1974, could have easily taught in any college at that time but chose an underdeveloped area like Hatighuli. Dr Saikia said that such persons were very rare and that he deserved gratitude.
The meeting was attended by Tuwaram Khanikar, retired Professor of SMD College, Charing, Tukheswar Borthakur, retired Principal of Gauri Sagar Higher Secondary Industrial Institute, and Juga Gogoi, former President of Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, as distinguished guests.
In the meeting, the felicitation volume Prajna Niswan, edited by Sasanka Nath, written on the life and work of Muhi Kanta Nath, was unveiled by Dr Jibon Kalita, Associate Professor, Nazira College. Hatighuli Xakha Xahitya Xabha along with fifty organizations and individuals felicitated Muhi Kanta Nath. Among them were Charing Rass Mahutsav Kala Krishiti Kendra, Gaurisagar Senior Secondary School, Silpukhuri High School, Gaurisagar Press Club, Hatighuli MV School, Hatighuli MV School Maharaj Jayanti Udjapan Samiti, Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha, Khanamukh Xakha Xahitya Xabha, Sivasagar Zilla Karmachari Parishad, Assam Pradeshik Yogi Sanmilani, Singkhap Mahila Samiti, Gaurisagar, Haflaluting Xakha Xahitya Xabha, and others.
The meeting was attended by Dr Anil Kumar Gogoi, retired Principal of Jhanji Hem Nath Sarma College, Dr Arun Chankakati, retired Joint Director of Agriculture, Government of Assam, Dr Soneswar Bora, retired Principal of Santipur High School, Robin Hazarika, retired Headmaster of Khanamukh High School, senior journalist Rajib Dutta, youth social worker Srimanta Dutta, and many others.
The meeting was anchored by Sasanka Nath while Diganta Nath, Secretary, Hatighuli Xhaka Xahitya Xabha, explained the objectives. Notably, on the eve of his birthday, Muhi Kanta Nath had felicitated 8 distinguished educationists, Tukheswar Borthakur, Tuwaram Khanikar, Krishna Mahanta, Cheniram Nath, Ananda Chandra Borah, Moniram Nath, Gonesh Borah, and Dhrubeswar Nath in Gaurisagar, Charing and the Hatighuli area.
In the function, the Xabha felicitated four outstanding students of the area, Dr Jyotisma Nath, Dr Lakshyajit Nath, and PhD awardee Pradyut Bikash Nath, who successfully passed the NEET examination and Bablu Nath, who obtained first class in BSc Physics.
Earlier in the event, Dr Utpala Nath, a post graduate Teacher of Nazira Govt HS School and the eldest daughter of Muhikanta Nath, expressed her thankfulness to the organizers Hatighuli Xahitya Xabha and the public for celebrating her father’s birthday.
