Dr Kirti Ranjan Dey who passed away on April 10 was an epitome of selfless service. After obtaining his MBBS from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, he established Dr Dey's Nursing Clinic at Tinsukia. Dr Dey who shared his time between his medical profession and social service was best known for his meticulous planning and hard work he put in to achieve his goal.
He joined Rotary Club of Tinsukia in 1974 and after serving in various capacities, he became District Governor of Rotary International (RI) District -3240 in 1997-98. A true Rotarian at heart, he won many laurels from Rotary International like Meritorious Service Award (2002), Four Avenues of Service Award (1999), Service Above Self Award (2003), Distinguished Service Award (2007). He was best known for his philanthropic activities.
Besides his association with IMA and other organisations like District Consumer Redressal Forum, he was instrumental in setting up a blood bank at Tinsukia almost single handedly. He also took part in science popularisation and awareness activities organised in schools and colleges.
He was a widely travelled man and toured various countries while attending RI conventions held every year in different parts of the world. He is survived by his two sons - Dr Kaushik and Dr Krishanu and wife.. His wife Subinita Dey who was too a Rotation predeceased him last year. I pay my homage to his sacred memories on the day of his Adya Sraddha today.
