KOKRAJHAR: A delegation of the ABSU led by President Dipen Boro has been in New Delhi to meet union ministers to discuss key issues of Bodoland, including more power and financial autonomy to BTR. President of ABSU Dipen Boro, Vice-President Kwrwmdao Wary, General Secretary Khanindra Basumatary, accompanied by CEM of BTC Pramod Boro, Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary and Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary on Friday evening called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed on key issues of BTR.
Talking to mediapersons, the president of ABSU Dipen Boro said that the meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai was fruitful. Boro said that they discussed on the issues of more power and financial autonomy to BTR by bringing the 125th amendment of the Constitution of India in the ongoing union budget session including amendment of article 280 of the Indian Constitution which deals with the Finance Commission, a quasi-judicial body that plays a crucial role in maintaining fiscal federalism in India. He also said that they also met the Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Gabin Mahan, and discussed the 125th amendment of the Constitution. He also said that the BTR Accord, signed in 2020 between the ABSU, UBPO, and four factions of the NDFB, ensured constitutional and political rights of the Bodo people and to make it more meaningful, the BTR 6th schedule should be given more power and financial autonomy.
Boro said that the 57th convention of the ABSU would be held at Dotma in Kokrajhar district on March 13, 14, 15, and 16 next. He said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been invited to the ABSU convention to attend the meeting on either March 15 or 16.
