ABSU urges GoI for time-bound implementation of BTR Accord

Joint Monitoring Committee met in Delhi on Thursday to review BTR Accord implementation with all signatory groups in attendance.

KOKRAJHAR: A meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC) on BTR Accord implementation was held on Thursday at North Block in New Delhi in which representatives of signatory organizations were present.

A 10-member representation of the ABSU was led by President Dipen Boro. Representatives of NDFB and United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) were also present in the tripartite review meeting on implementation of BTR Accord, 2020 with the Government of India, MHA, Joint Secretary, North East Neeraj Kr Bansod, Deputy Secretary, MHA, NR Minz, and Secretary to the Government of Assam Government (Home department) Partha Majumdar, ADGP Hiren Nath, and Principal Secretary of BTC Akash Deep.

 The President of the ABSU, Dipen Boro, said that the review meeting focused on inclusion of more Bodo villages from Sonitpur and Biswanath districts and the southern part of BTR. He said that the ABSU urged the Government of India for the amendment of Article 280, 125th amendment to the Constitution of India for six schedule councils for more autonomy and more power, implementation of ST Hill status to Boro Kacharis living in Karbi Anglong, and notification of villages of BKWAC, TAC, and RHAC. The ABSU also demanded implementation of FRA Act, 2006, school provincialization, case withdrawal of ex-NDFB, ex gratia to martyrs, complete rehabilitation of cadres, release of NDFB chairman DR Nabla and six others held by CBI along with 66 members whose cases under NIA have been shifted to Assam and district level, recruitment in Assam police, army, paramilitary, etc. and a special development package of Rs 1500 cr.

 Boro also said that as per clauses of the BTR Accord, there had been a proposal for establishment of National Institute of Technology (NIT), NERIMS, Central University, tribal university campus, and a sports academy which were being awaited since the signing of accord. He urged the government of India to implement these important educational institutions.

The ABSU President said that the discussion was fruitful and emphasized on speedy implementation of all clauses of the accord. He also said the ABSU insisted on time-bound implementation before 2026.
