NAZIRA: The social organization ‘Agantuk’ observed the first death anniversary of renowned intellectual and communist leader Avoni Borthakur at Nazira College on July 23. A musical programme was held to pay respects to his memory, featuring soulful performances that honoured his legacy and contributions.
During the event, former CPI state Secretary Kanak Gogoi, ex-chairman of Nazira municipality Abdur Rahman and Bhibhuti Borgohain delivered short speeches discussing Borthakur’s work and ideology.
Various artistes, including Dilip Das, Jyotishman Phukan, Arohan Mili, Pranita Lachit, Nivedita Phukan, Prabhat Konwar, Jinamoni Borgohain, Lavanya Dutta Phukan, Janmoni Handique, Mayuri Rajowar, and Kumud Kalita, paid tributes to Borthakur through songs, recitation, and other performances.
The event was attended by prominent individuals, including Pulak Phukan, Professor Gajendra Sharma, Principal of Swaraj Junior College Asomi Gogoi, Shankardev Shishu Niketan’s Principal Gopal Boruah, reporters Bipin Hazarika, Ranjit Sabhapandit, and Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, among others. Jyoga Gogoi, President of Agantuk, anchored the programme.
