Aged Man Killed By family members in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A heinous case of killing an old man by his family members has caused sensation in Lakhimpur district. The incident took place at Borongabari of Bodhkora Majgaon under Boginadi Police Station of the district.

As per report, Paban Saikia (70), inhabitant of the village, was allegedly killed by his son Dilip Saikia, along with his wife Pinky Saikia and son Arup Saikia, on Monday night. It is alleged that the son, the daughter-in-law and the grandchild had thrown the old man into their household pond, tying his hands and legs with ropes. The brother and sisters of the old man and the local people alleged that the trio had been torturing the old man and they were allegedly assisted in this by even Paban Saikia’s wife.

Some people of the village noticed the body of the old man afloat in the water of the pond on Tuesday and informed Boginadi Police. Then the villagers allegedly assaulted them and kept them in the house so that they could not flee.

Later, Boginadi Police, led by OC Priyabrat Gogoi, recovered the body and sent it for post mortem to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. Police arrested Dilip Saikia, Pinky Saikia and Arup Saikia as per the FIR lodged by Pulin Saikia, the brother of Paban Saikia. Though the wife of the old man was also detained by police for interrogation, she was released later. Pinky Saikia and Arup Saikia were also released.
