GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has formally declared its intention to contest the upcoming Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections on its own in a selected number of constituencies. This move is a tactical realignment for the party within the state political scenario.

A crucial meeting held on March 10 at the AGP office in the Boko-Chaygaon constituency provided a platform for party leaders to discuss and finalize their electoral strategy. The gathering was instrumental in determining the party's direction for the forthcoming elections.

The AGP plans to contest 12 to 15 council constituencies and extend support to National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in other constituencies. This is a subtle position on coalition politics, with independent candidacy and collaborative support.

In addition, the AGP has expressed its readiness to negotiate with the Rabha Hasong Joint Struggle Committee, if invited. The display of willingness is an indication of the party to address local issues and foster cooperative relationships.

The meeting was attended by senior AGP leaders, including General Secretary Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita, and former MLAs Jyoti Prasad Das and Jyotish Das. Their attendance, along with other senior leaders from South Kamrup and Goalpara districts, indicated the significance of the event and the party's united stance in the future.
