KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Thursday urged the Government of Assam to take appropriate measures to overcome the water crisis due to deficient rainfall and ensure appropriate action in the interest of farmers.

ABSU President Dipen Boro said that amidst deficiency in monsoon and decrease of regular rain along with heatwave, the farmers were facing difficult times for seasonal cultivation. He said that on the call of the Central Dhanshri Water Users Association and local ABSU, the Minister of Irrigation and Health & Family Welfare, Ashok Singhal, on Thursday visited and discussed with the farmers and Water Users Association at Bhairabkunda in Udalguri district, one of the major irrigation projects comprising of 40,000 farmers. He said that the minister assured and directed the officials of the concerned department to ensure availability of water in paddy fields.

Boro informed that the local MLA of Udalguri, District Commissioner, Chief Engineer, Irrigation, CHD of Irrigation, BTC, Executive Engineer, DFO, representatives of Udalguri district committee, ABSU, and stakeholders accompanied the minister during his visit and submitted memorandums requesting him to take needful action to overcome the shortage of water.
