All Koch-Rajbanshi Students Union (AKRSU) factions unite; Manoj Ray selected new Secretary General

The unification of All Koch-Rajbanshi Students Union (AKRSU) was held on Wednesday. After a long discussion lasting about 10 hours, 10 factions of AKRSU declared unison at Tuesday midnight.

BONGAIGAON: The unification of All Koch-Rajbanshi Students Union (AKRSU) was held on Wednesday. After a long discussion lasting about 10 hours, 10 factions of AKRSU declared unison at Tuesday midnight. Manoj Ray has been selected as the new President of AKRSU whereas Boloram Barman as Secretary General. Another leader, Khitish Barman was selected as the Chief Advisor.

The unification procedure for 10 factions of AKRSU was a long term process which finally came to a culmination. After several meetings at different levels, July 29, the original foundation day of AKRSU, was selected as the day for the formal unsion. The leaders stated that this day was selected as it would mark when AKRSU was born and re-born. The programme started with flag hoisting where all the presidents of factions of AKRSU hoisted the flag. Finally after an open session, the delegate meeting started in the Birjhora public library. The meeting lasted till 2 AM and finally the rebirth of unified AKRSU happened.

Addressing the media Manoj Ray, new Secretary of AKRSU, said that now AKRSU would play a significant role for the development of Koch-Rajbanshi people. “We didn’t succeed before as we were divided and weak. But now we are united. So, we will now fight for the rights of Koch Rajbongshi people and compel the government to fulfil our justified demands such as ST categorization, separate Kamatapur state, etc,” he said. Manoj Ray also stated that after this unification, if any other group mentions themselves as AKRSU, they would be declared illegal. “We already discussed the matter and invited all factions of AKRSU. So if anyone hasn’t joined in this unification process and wants to announce themselves as factions of AKRSU, we declare them illegal. AKRSU has no faction from today,” he said.
