NAGAON: Mamtaz Begum, who won from Ward No. 9 of Madhabpara Gram Panchayat under Raha assembly constituency in the recently held Panchayat polls, allegedly violated the strict guidelines of Panchayat polls entrusted by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. A section of people of the Gram Panchayat filed a complaint against the Panchayat member in this regard.
According to sources, Begum had three children, and as per Panchayat guidelines entrusted by Chief Minister Dr Sarma, those with more than two children could not participate in the Panchayat polls held in the state recently. It has been alleged that Begum, in her nomination papers, mentioned that she is the mother of two children, while she has three.
Following submission of her nomination papers, some locals had filed a complaint against her in this regard and demanded disqualification of her nomination papers. But the concerned authority of the district election office qualified her nomination without paying attention to the complaint levelled by the locals and she finally won.
The people of Madhabpara Gram Panchayat sought a thorough probe into the complaint against the ward member and urged initiation of lawful action on the basis of the enquiry report as soon as possible, the sources added further.
