Alumni-funded PhD Research Fellowship awarded at Dibrugarh University

The Chemistry Department Alumni Association (CDAA) initiated a new alumni-funded ‘CDAA PhD Research Fellowship’ to support research activities among doctoral students.

DIBRUGARH: The Chemistry Department Alumni Association (CDAA) initiated a new alumni-funded ‘CDAA PhD Research Fellowship’ to support research activities among doctoral students.

This fellowship is a landmark step towards fostering a culture of academic inquiry and innovation within the department, which was awarded by Vice-Chancellor Prof Jiten Hazarika to Himanku Boruah, Research Scholar, from the department. The award was conferred in the annual general meeting held on June 24 at the Indira Miri Conference Hall.

The fellowship was initiated from a corpus fund contributed by the alumni of the chemistry department for the first time. The Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University inaugurated the event, delivered the opening speech, and praised the noble effort taken up by the CDAA. Dr Ramesh Chandra Baruah, President of the CDAA; Prof Anil Kumar Saikia, Department of Chemistry, IIT Guwahati; Prof Prashanta Kr Saikia, President, Dibrugarh University Alumni Association; along with Prof Geetika Borah, Dean, Science and Engineering; and Prof Pankaj Das, Dean, Research & Development, graced the occasion. Dr Rahul Kar, Working President, CDAA, delivered the welcome address while Dr Bolin Chetia, Head of the Department, Chemistry, and Secretary of CDAA, briefed on various activities of the alumni association in the last tenure.

A new executive committee of the alumni association was constituted during the meeting to lead and coordinate alumni activities. Prof. Anil Saikia and Dr Jitu Ranjan Chetia were unanimously elected as the president and secretary, respectively, of the association. The committee aims to strengthen alumni-department relations and expand its impact through structured programmes.

The meeting served as a platform to explore further collaborations between the alumni network and the department. Several alumni expressed their thoughtful words on the proceedings of the meeting. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a shared commitment to continue nurturing the legacy and progress of the chemistry department through sustained alumni involvement.
