NAGAON: The 70th annual conference of the Puranigudam Shatadal Xakha Xahitya Sabha was successfully held at the Chariali Hem Baruah MV School in Puranigudam on Sunday last here. The conference was organized by Shatadal Sakha Sahitya Sabha in collaboration with the villagers of Puranigudam Potharaag Village and Bishnu Rabha Yuva Sangha, Puranigudam.
The event began with the hoisting of the Asom Sahitya Xabha flag by Rabindra Nath Kalita, President of the Puranigudam Shatadal Sakha Xahitya Xabha, and the Bishnu Rabha Yuva Sangha flag by Pradip Kumar Bairagi, President of the reception committee. The conference featured a poetry recitation session, which was inaugurated by noted Assamese poet and litterateur Paran Kumar Baruah. The session was moderated by Mohini Mohan Deka. Dozens of local poets participated in the poem recitation programme.
The open session of the conference was held in the afternoon, which was presided over by Rabindra Nath Kalita while Chitra Ranjan Bora, noted sculptor of Puranigudam, mentored the open session. The session was inaugurated by Rebat Kr Hazarika, Secretary of the Asom Sahitya Sabha’s Nagaon Regional Office.
The conference also featured the distribution of several awards, including the ‘Pawan Chandra Baruah, Kamala Baruah’ memorial award, which was given to Dijendra Mohan Saikia, and the ‘Arun Chandra Bhuyan memorial awards’ to some meritorious students of the area.
Several books were also ceremonially released during the conference, including ‘Ithias Aru Sanskriti’ by Dr Nripen Chandra Das, ‘Sangrami Adarsha Charu Chandra Goswami Jiban Parikrama’ by Dr Anjali Sarma Goswami, ‘Surabhi’ by Chenahi Phukan, and ‘Rajai Hukum Dishe’ by Sewali Baruah Saikia. The ‘Patrika’ of Puranigudam Shatadal Sakha Sahitya Sabha edited by Chittaranjan Borah was also released in the meeting by noted litterateur Mileswar Pator.
The conference concluded with a cultural programme, featuring Bargeet and other musical performances. The reception committee’s President Pradip Bairagi and Secretary Birinchi Kumar Baruah, along with the Puranigudam Shatadal Sakha Sahitya Sabha’s Secretary Tilak Kumar Gayan thanked the guests and participants for making the conference a success.
