DHUBRI: The 15-day Ashokaustami Mela got underway as Dhubri Deputy Commissioner and president of Dhubri Mela Committee, Dibakar Nath formally inaugurated the mela at a function held at Dhubri Mela Field on Friday evening. At the onset of the meeting, secretary of the Mela Committee, Ganesh Sen presented the income and expenditures of 2024 -2025 and informed about the donations to various institutions for development and other socio-welfare works in Dhubri town.
In his brief speech, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Dibakar Nath while wishing all a very happy Chhat Puja along with Ashokaustami and appealed the people to celebrate this festive season where Rongali Bihu too is round the corner with a fervour of peace and amity.
The inaugural meeting of Ashokastami Mela was also attended and addressed by chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, Chairman of Dhubri-Gauripur Development Authority, Dipak Kumar Saha and working president of Dhubri Mela Committee, Amal Kumar Saha. The meeting was anchored by assistant secretary of Dhubri Mela Committee, Tapan Kumar Dey while a vote of thanks was offered by another assistant secretary, Uttam Prasad. Thousands of devotees already thronged Dhubri and taking shelter in temple and school premises to take holy dip in river Brahmaputra on the occasion of Ashokaustami on Saturday.
