Assam: 17,000 YABA Tablets Seized In Sribhumi, One Arrested

The Sribhumi police team launched a search operation, leading to the seizure of 17,000 YABA tablets and the apprehension of a smuggler.

SRIBHUMI: In a significant operation, the Sribhumi police team launched a search operation in the district on Wednesday night. During the operation, the team seized 17,000 YABA tablets and apprehended a smuggler.

Taking to X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "You may be smart, but our sources are smarter. Last night, @sribhumi police apprehended an individual based on reliable inputs and recovered 17,000 YABA tablets. Tablets, which were meant to destroy the lives of our youths, will now be destroyed themselves."

In another operation, a Cachar Police team arrested three individuals with drugs in their possession in the early hours of Thursday. Acting on an intelligent input, Numal Mahatta, superintendent of police (SP) of Cachar district said that an SUV vehicle bearing registration number AS-01BT-0701 was intercepted in the Dholai area.

The arrested individuals were identified as Ramesh Chandra Biswas (34), Sahidul Islam (26), and Ibadur Rahman (28).

In another similar crackdown against drug trafficking, two drug peddlers were arrested by the Sivasagar police during an anti-narcotics operation at Station Chariali on March 14.

The apprehended individuals were identified as Bishal Nath, son of Rabin Chandra Nath, hailing from Cherekapar Hatimuriya Gaon, and Asif Ahmed, son of Mustafa Alom, belonging to Jengonikotia. The duo were nabbed for possessing suspected heroin weighing 19.79 grams. The illicit substances were concealed in three plastic containers.
