Silchar: After being made to consume a poisonous substance, a young woman was allegedly murdered in a shocking incident that took place at Kandigram in Katigorah, Cachar.

According to the claims, Saiful Uddin from Tintikri village in Katigorah was romantically involved with the 19-year-old woman. With the prospect of marriage, Saiful allegedly lured her away from home on Saturday, January 4.

He allegedly took her to his residence after raping her, where he and his family members allegedly beat her and made her consume a poisonous substance.

The critically ill woman was taken to Katigorah Model Hospital by Saiful following the assault. But when Saiful and his family found out that the family members of the victim had reached the hospital, they left the area. As the woman's condition worsened, she was referred to Silchar Medical College .

The victim, fighting for her life there, passed away two days later on January 6 after which a postmortem was performed on her body.

The mother reported that the local police had received their formal complaint.

"He eloped with my niece and they tortured her," the uncle of the deceased victim stated. "They later put her on the road and had her eat poison. They also confiscated all she owned. She wrote the names of the four people who had raped her on a piece of paper and informed her mother that she wouldn't live while receiving treatment. She requested that her mother find them," he added.

The victim's relatives filed a complaint against Saiful Uddin and seven other people at the Katigorah Police Station in response to the incident. None of the accused have been taken into custody yet, despite the fact that authorities have begun an investigation.
