MANGALDAI: In the sudden drive against child marriage, Darrang Police has arrested as many as 22 persons in a total of 12 cases registered in different police stations of the district since last evening. The arrested persons included the illegal husbands of the minor victims, their father-in-law, and others. Of these 12 cases, four cases were registered at Dalgaon Police Station, followed by three at Dhula Police Station, two each at Sipajhar and Kharupetia Police Stations, and one registered in Mangaldai Police Station. All the arrested persons were later remanded to judicial custody following their production before the judicial court.
Informing it to ‘The Sentinel,’ Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rosy Talukdar further added that in addition nine persons were already arrested in six other such cases in the current year. Earlier, since the month of February of 2023, altogether 153 child marriage cases were registered in the district, in which a total of 112 persons were arrested.
