Assam: 57th foundation day celebration of AMSU concludes in Doomdooma

AMSU's 57th Foundation Day ended with vibrant Rati Bihu by Moran youth at Doomdooma, wrapping up the two-day celebration on Tuesday night.

DOOMDOOMA: The two-day long 57th Foundation Day celebration of All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) held at Raja Ramakanta Samannay Khetra at Doomdooma Town Field premises came to an end on Tuesday night with the performance of the traditional Rati Bihu by the youths of the Moran community. The celebration began on Monday with the hoisting of AMSU flag by its President Palindra Borah. AMSU Secretary Joykanta Moran initiated the Smriti Tarpan programme.

The first open meeting of the celebration was held on Monday with AMSU President Palindra Borah in the chair. The meeting was inaugurated by former AMSU president Naba Moran. Leaders of various other ethnic student unions participated in the meeting and resolved to work unitedly for the welfare of the greater Assamese nationality. They also reiterated their demands of ST status for the six ethnic communities of the state.

Former principal of Digboi College Dr Deep Saikia inaugurated the AMSU annual magazine ‘Gandhoi.’ A few distinguished persons including former AMSU leaders were also felicitated in the meeting.

The Intellectual Session of the foundation day celebration was held at New Aurora Cinema Hall of the town which was moderated by Principal of Tinsukia Commerce College Dr Chaitanya Bora. Noted innovator and the recipient of the Padma Shri award Uddhab Bharali and writer Hrishikesh Goswami participated in this session as resource persons which was attended by a good number of students from various educational institutions of the Doomdooma area. In the afternoon, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the traditional ‘Gos Tolor Bihu’ and ‘Kheri’ of the Moran community. The ‘Kheri’ was performed by one thousand women.

On the second day afternoon, a colourful cultural procession was brought out in Doomdooma town with the participation of several cultural groups, gayan-bayon, and elephants. In the evening, the second open session was held under the presidency of Palindra Borah. It was inaugurated by former AMSU president and the Chief Executive Member of the Moran Autonomous Council Arunjyoti Moran. The Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chowna Mein attended the meeting as chief guest. He highly appreciated AMSU’s firm commitment to preserve the unique traditions, language, and identity of the Moran community while working tirelessly for the holistic development of its people.

In the meeting AMSU conferred the Education Minister of Assam Dr Ranoj Pegu with ‘Badousa Sammanonay Bota - 2025’ (Badousa Harmony Award-2025).

The meeting was also addressed by local MLA and Assam Minister for Labour Welfare Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare and Home Affairs Rupesh Gowala and attended by Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, Tinsukia MLA Sanjoy Kishan, the Chief of the Moran Autonomous Council Arunjyoti Moran, and several others.  The souvenir ‘Doomdooma’ published on this occasion was formally inaugurated by the District Commissioner of Tinsukia Swapneel Paul.

The two-day long Foundation Day celebration of AMSU culminated with the performance of the traditional Rati Bihu by over two thousand youths, which was witnessed by thousands of people including the ministers and other guests. The Rati Bihu programme was inaugurated by Chowna Mein, Deputy Chief Minister, Arunachal Pradesh.
