SILCHAR: A group of nine Rohingyas including children were detained in Cachar on Tuesday night near the Indo-Bangla border in Katigorah. According to police sources, the group was supposedly trying to cross back to Bangladesh following the massive hunt against the illegal intruders from the neighbouring country. According to local sources, the incident unfolded in Katigorah, when residents noticed suspicious activity near the border. On approaching the group and questioning them, locals learned of their identities and alerted the authorities. Interestingly, these Rohingyas allegedly revealed that they had entered India illegally 20–22 years ago along with their families and had since been living in Hyderabad. The exact reason for their attempted return to Bangladesh remained unclear, though security agencies suspected that it might be linked to personal or familial circumstances.
