SILCHAR: The All Assam Manipuri Youths’ Association (AAMYA) has raised serious allegations against three organizations—Manipuri Youth Front of Assam (MYFA), Manipuri National Council (MNC), and Young Manipur Council of Assam (YMCA)—accusing them of attempting to sabotage its long-standing movement for the creation of a Manipuri Autonomous Council in Assam.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Silchar Press Club, Ksh. Kundal Singha, the chief adviser of AAMYA, asserted that the association has been actively pursuing the demand for the autonomous council since 1969. He emphasized that the proposed council is essential for the welfare and development of the Manipuri community in Assam. “The Manipuri population in Assam is around six lakh, yet we have no political representation. If our demand is met, we expect to secure at least 22 elected representatives,” he said. Kundal Singha further alleged that MYFA, MNC, and YMCA recently held a public meeting in Silchar concerning the council issue. According to him, the gathering was aimed at misleading the public and creating confusion over the demand. He clarified that these organisations have no direct involvement in the movement and insisted that any group wishing to work for the cause must collaborate with AAMYA. He concluded by urging the government to take the matter seriously and act promptly to fulfil the long-pending demand of the Manipuri Autonomous Council.
