GUWAHATI: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has achieved a historic milestone by utilizing Rs. 1 lakh crore of its budget before the end of January. This accomplishment reflects the state's commitment to inclusive growth and a prosperous future.
The Finance Department, under the guidance of Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, has efficiently managed the funds. Additionally, capital expenditure (Capex) has reached a record high of approximately Rs. 17,000 crore.
This significant achievement demonstrates the Assam Government's dedication to ensuring that every rupee is used for the state's development and the betterment of its people.
Meanwhile, Assam has achieved remarkable progress in the construction of roads and bridges, with CM Sarma stating that the state has been building one bridge and nearly 15 km of road daily on average since 2021.
As of December 2024, the government has completed 1,236 bridges and over 18,000 km of roads. The total road network in Assam spans 65,748 km, including 3,927 km of national highways and 61,820 km of roads under the Public Works Department.
The Chief Minister also shared updates on major projects, including a Rs. 3,689-crore Ring Road around Guwahati, for which bidding has been completed and construction will begin within a month. Another significant project, an elevated corridor at Kaziranga, is awaiting approval from the Union Cabinet after review by the Public Investment Board.
