Assam: Alcohol prohibition in Golaghat for Panchayat election

Golaghat district enforces alcohol ban from 4:30 PM Wednesday until May 2 for peaceful Panchayat polls, with a dry day on May 4 if re-polling occurs.

BOKAKHAT: In accordance with orders from the Assam Government’s Excise Department, and to ensure that the upcoming Panchayat polls in Golaghat district on May 2 are conducted peacefully, the district administration has declared a total prohibition on the sale and consumption of alcohol in the district from 4:30 PM on Wednesday until 4:30 PM on May 2. In the event of any re-polling, May 4 will also be designated a Dry Day. Furthermore, from the start of vote counting on May 11 until the completion of the counting process, intoxicating liquors will remain prohibited.

During these dry days, Club ‘On,’ Hotel ‘On,’ IMFL outlets, retail ‘OFF’ & ‘ON’ shops, all wholesale warehouses, and country-liquor shops must remain closed. Any violation of this order will invite strict action under the Assam Excise Act and its rules, as stated in an administration press release.
