DIGBOI: The British-era AOD Hospital in Tinsukia’s Digboi is in question again following the allegations on the management’s poor administrative policy involving the refund of money deposited against ambulance charge on February 7.

One of the aggrieved guardians Mukta Bahadur Chetry of Digboi, who had lost his wife during treatment at the AOD Hospital on February 7, said that the hospital authority declined to refund the ambulance charge.

“Though the charge for availing the ambulance service was paid in advance, yet the service was not availed as my wife succumbed to cardio respiratory failure in the hospital,” said Mr Chetry, adding “Ironically, the amount was later mysteriously declined to be refunded by the employees at the reception.”

According to an AOD employee who had persuaded the matter with the hospital authority on behalf of Mr Chetry, a partial amount was offered at the reception but was declined by the representative who sensed something fishy.

“How could the refund amount, declined earlier, be offered after two days, that too partially if at all the refund policy of the hospital doesn’t allow,” wondered Mr Chetry, former General Secretary of the AOC Labour Union who retired from AOD nearly a decade ago. The thing that further raised questions was the engagement of AOD nursing students at the reception counter.

Furthermore, instead of settling the case officially, another hospital employee Mr Rao had reportedly employed the representative of Mr Chetry to mediate in between and accept the offered amount which was lesser than the actual payment.

Meanwhile, Deep Chetry, the son of the deceased Radhika Chetry, demanded the AOD management to interfere and ensure that the refund policy of hospital management serves the greater cause of the people.
