Assam Artist Sets Record by Illustrating Joymoti Konwari’s Life in 30 Minutes

This record-breaking accomplishment not only showcases Ammna Sorif Rohman’s exceptional artistic talent but also brings renewed attention to Assam’s legendary past.

SIVASAGAR: Ammna Sorif Rohman, an 18-year-old artist from Sivasagar, Assam, has achieved a remarkable feat by entering the Indian Book of Records 2025 for illustrating the life story of Joymoti Konwari in just 30 minutes.

Using a black pen and watercolors on a 37 cm × 28.5 cm sheet of paper, Ammna skillfully captured the bravery and sacrifice of Sati Joymoti, the Ahom queen who endured torture to protect her husband, Prince Gadadhar Singha. Her achievement was officially recognized on February 22, 2025, making her a proud representative of Assam’s rich history and culture.

This record-breaking accomplishment not only showcases Ammna Sorif Rohman’s exceptional artistic talent but also brings renewed attention to Assam’s legendary past.

Meanwhile, Uma Chetry, the first woman cricketer from Assam to play for India's senior team, has been added to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Annual Player Contracts for 2024-25. Chetry has been assigned to Group C, a milestone that shows the increasing prominence of cricket in the northeastern region.

The BCCI announced the contracts, which will be effective from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. Chetry joins a pool of talented players in Group C, which includes Yastika Bhatia, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, Titas Sadhu, Arundathi Reddy, Amanjot Kaur, Sneh Rana, and Pooja Vastrakar.
