Assam: Assistant Engineer Of GMC Caught Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe, Arrested By Police

Guwahati: On Friday, the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption team of Assam Police caught one person identified as Dibakar Mali red-handed while accepting bribe money.

The accused who works as an assistant engineer in Guwahati Municipal Corporation had allegedly demanded bribe money which he was caught receiving.

This information was shared by the Special DGP of Assam Police GP Singh on Twitter. The tweet read, "One Dibakar Mali, Assistant Engineer of @gmc_guwahati caught red handed today while accepting demanded bribe money by @DIR_VAC_ASSAM."

Earlier this month, a junior engineer who worked in the Public Works Department was caught taking a bribe of Rs 10, 000  by the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption team of Assam Police in Dispur.

The accused who is identified as Bijoy Das was an employee of PWD of Rangia Sub-Division. He reportedly had demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a person for issuing NOC (no objection certificate) to him for setting up a petrol pump in Kamrup district.

In an official statement, the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption team of Assam Police stated, "On the basis of a complaint alleging demand of bribe, a trap was laid by a team of Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Dispur area of Guwahati. At around 5 pm, one Bijoy Das, junior engineer, PWD (Buildings) of Rangia Subdivision was caught red handed in front of PWD (Building) office at Ganesh Mandir by the team while he was accepting bribe of Rs10000from the complainant."
