BISWANATH: In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, the Biswanath Police have seized a substantial quantity of smuggled liquor and suspected ganja in two separate operations.
Based on a tip-off, the police seized 168 bottles (38 liters) of illegally smuggled liquor from Arunachal Pradesh. They stopped the consignment before it could be distributed in the area.
As part of an anti-drug drive, Biswanath Police seized 11.54 kg of suspected ganja and arrested one person. The accused is in custody, and investigations are ongoing to track the supply chain and possible links to bigger drug networks.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, The Charaideo Police, along with the Excise Department, had carried out a major operation to stop the making and selling of illegal liquor in the district. Acting on specific information, they had raided a secret liquor-making site and had seized around 1,615 liters of homemade liquor (sulai). They had also destroyed the equipment used for production to prevent further illegal activities.
In another operation, the Charaideo Police had arrested a ganja peddler in the Teokghat area on Thursday based on secret information. He had been caught with around 5.268 kg of ganja meant for sale. The police had taken him into custody and had been investigating to find others linked to the illegal drug trade.
