SIVASAGAR: The much-anticipated Panchayat election results announced on Monday marked a major political setback for Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal in Sivasagar district, as the party failed to secure significant support and finished third or fourth in most constituencies.
So far, the Sivasagar District Election Office has not been able to officially provide all the Panchayat election results to the media. However, based on the results released so far, Raijor Dal has only managed to secure third or fourth place in a few constituencies. According to available information, Sivasagar district comprises 12 Zila Parishad constituencies, with four each under the Demow, Nazira, and Sivasagar assembly constituencies.
The BJP made sweeping gains across the district, securing 11 out of 12 Zila Parishad seats, despite not having a formal alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in several areas. The AGP managed to win one seat, while the Congress held on to its base but suffered noticeable losses, especially due to its decision not to ally with Raijor Dal.
Raijor Dal, which contested in only select Zila Parishad constituencies in the Sivasagar and Demow assembly segments, failed to finish above third in any of the constituencies it contested. The party did not field any candidate in the Nazira constituency, which has four Zila Parishad seats.
