KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Thursday expressed strong resentment over the illegal supply of books in BTC colleges and siphoning of crores of rupees.
The BJSM on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma through DC, Kokrajhar demanding a CBI inquiry into unlawful supply of books worth crores of rupees to BTC colleges and stringent punishment to the officials involved in the misappropriation of the money. The Working President of the BJSM, DD Narzary, in the memorandum said that the unlawful supply of books to 33 colleges in the BTC area worth crores of rupees had proved that corruption is rampant in BTC. He demanded that a CBI investigation should be initiated to ensure stringent punishment of involved officials and individuals.
Narzary said that the Bodoland Territorial Council was created after the sacrifices of thousands of Bodo brothers carving out of existing Assam with utmost hope and sincere believe that they will see development of the region and effective protection under sixth schedule to the Constitution of India but that the current events of allegations relating to huge pay offs involved in supply of books to 33 colleges under Bodoland University had bellied all those hopes and aspirations. Moreover, it was learnt that the BTC had entrusted Sabda Ram Rabha, Standing Counsel of BTC at Gauhati High Court, Dhiraj Soud, Secretary, BTC, Bidhan Das, Sr Law Officer, BTC, The Registrar, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, and Soroj Kumar Dora, FA, BTC. Narzary said that this decision appeared quite questionable, as it may serve to obscure the facts of the case rather than uncover them. He also said that all the individuals work under the Principal Secretary of BTC, who himself is one of the accused in the alleged payoffs. Hence, the CBI should be entrusted with the investigation, he added.
Narzary said that in the interest of ensuring stringent punishment for the officials and individuals involved in the massive illegal payoffs, the Chief Minister should take necessary initiatives, which will go a long way in deterring officials and individuals in times to come from such illegal involvement.
